Planning for Art History Majors

For many art history majors, the burning question they face as their undergraduate studies draw to a close is: what on earth do I do with an art history degree? The answer, in fact, is quite a lot. Students graduating with a major in Art History, Architectural History, or Pre-Architecture have a wide variety of post-graduate options, both for further study, and also in the marketplace. Graduating students might consider the following options:
Graduate study in art history or the history of architecture
Graduate study in art education, non-profit administration, arts
     administration, curatorial studies
Professional training: law school, MBA, education (for primary or
     secondary school teaching), art therapy
Jobs in museums, art galleries, and auction houses, or in arts
management organization (such as those working with artists’
     rights management, or image management)
Jobs in government or business requiring excellent research and writing
skills, and an ability to analyze visual information
Jobs in publishing, such as academic presses, art magazines, or
     newspapers
